PharoJS is a slightly different approach. is a Smalltalk virtual machine written in Javascript and that has allowed some crazy browser based stuff. It actually gets more complicated because there are ports of Squeak descendants than run in-browser. Long story longer.Pharo has probably done the best job of emulating Ruby's gems and you can search for and discover them on GitHub. But we like the GitHub experience sociologically (gitflow) so Cuis and Pharo both adopted git but the files they store in git are not at all cross compatible. Smalltalk code isn't file based but git and everything else is so in true Smalltalk style we built our own. Prior to the forks a pretty good version control/code management tool called Monticello. I think at some point we will have to get together and solve that.Ĭuis and Pharo have both concluded that git rules the world and embraced GitHub as their preferred repository. I don't think either are available for Cuis though because enterprise development just isn't a Cuis value.Įach of the Squeak descendants has taken a different approach to code packaging so sharing has gotten harder than we would like.

Furthermore, we made many improvements to our programming tools to provide a better programming experience for code writing, object inspection, and process debugging. We changed the image-format version so that older VMs will not crash on Sista-specific bytecodes.

Bundled with the latest OSVM release, the image now uses the new SistaV1 bytecode set by default. This is the first Squeak that supports high-resolution displays on all major platforms and offers a flexible UI scale factor through improved support for TrueType fonts. We are happy to release the next version of Squeak shortly after its 25th anniversary.
